Is solo mining with a Bitaxe still a good idea in 2026?

Hey all, Been mining with a Bitaxe for a bit now, and with the way BTC is moving this year, I keep wondering about solo mining. The chances of hitting a block with just a few terahashes are super low. Still, I see more folks jumping on solo pools or getting those small ASIC miners. For me, it's not about making a quick buck. It feels more like buying a lottery ticket while also helping decentralization.

I get that. But if Bitcoin is this huge ocean, I’m not just here selling buckets to catch the waves. I wanna be the one building the lighthouse. The Bitaxe isn’t just a mining tool; it’s part of keeping the network decentralized and safe. While others wait for rain, we’re building the future finance infrastructure.

Move this to the Bitcoin mining section, please. Just a heads up, there are solo miners from 2023 who still haven’t solved a block. That’s the reality of solo mining. Just think about what you’re getting into. It’s like gambling. You might mine for years and not hit a block, or you could get lucky after a few months. Be ready to lose the cash you put into a Bitaxe. Seriously, consider it gone once you buy it.

For newbies, I think having a Bitaxe is a solid way to start. It’s a good intro into how mining works. If you’re in it for profit, though, you might want to reconsider. The network difficulty is climbing, making it tough to score a block. But if you just wanna learn and have some fun, then go for it!

Totally agree! It’s way more about luck than an investment. Not at all like mining XMR with a CPU before the pandemic. Anyway, it feels like trying to win the lottery, so yeah, you can totally try it!

I’ve been hard on you, but if you actually manage to mine a solo block, I’d feel kinda silly. I thought you’d appreciate this, it’s more in line with your vibe. At least you got your miner set up, right?

You’ve figured out solo mining and are even managing your own node. Seeing others push through the tough times is motivating. You’re making your systems better without worrying about costs since the rewards will outweigh what you initially spent. Solo mining can be an awesome path for those who know what they’re doing, while for others it’s just another way to explore wealth with crypto.

Thanks for that, Alphakilo. You nailed it. Once you realize running a node is about being your own bank, everything changes. Most people obsess over small gains, but they lose sight of the bigger picture. I’m tweaking my setup to boost efficiency without frying the chips. It’s a tough learning curve, but the hands-on knowledge I’m gaining from solo mining is priceless. No pool fee can give you that.

Everyone calling this a lottery ticket needs to chill. A Bitaxe is more like a tiny heater. Its real value is teaching you the stratum protocol. Syncing up a local node and pulling block templates is pure cypherpunk homelab stuff. You’re probably never gonna hit a block, but treat the power bill like a tuition fee for a networking class. Expecting profits is just not realistic.

That’s a fair point; good luck either way.

I run my node with a single Bitaxe. It’s my little way of supporting decentralization in the Bitcoin network. The lottery aspect is just a fun bonus.

I think small-scale solo mining is mostly a hobby now. Financially, it’s unlikely to pay off, but the educational experience and understanding of the network are definitely worth it.

Good luck out there! That’s fair... maybe one day we’ll all be millionaires. Focusing on the educational side is the realistic aim, but hey, luck could totally happen.
