Hey all, quick question. Is this 24TB external hard drive good for hosting a Solo Node like Umbrel? I'm thinking of installing Umbrel on a USB and using the Seagate for storage. Seems like 24TB would be perfect for the growing blockchain, right? Just wanna make sure it's a solid investment for years ahead.

no way you need that big of an HDD. an SSD will be way faster. check out this 4TB SSD on Amazon. it's perfect for what you're doing. you can also connect it to a small PC or even a laptop running Linux. way better choice for speed and longevity.
The Bitcoin blockchain isn’t growing as quickly as some think. The max block size is 4MB, but average is around 1.59MB this year. Current blockchain size is about 702GB. So that 24TB HDD will last you more than a century, lol. But yeah, I’d also steer clear of QLC SSDs, they can slow down after using all their cache.
I’m running a setup with a 4TB Samsung NVMe SSD and an 8TB key external SSD for backup. Works great with my Mac Studio. If you’re looking at SSDs, they’re totally the way to go.
