Every time I hear about a bitcoin miner that can also heat your house, it’s either a joke or total vaporware. Why isn't there a solid one that looks nice and isn't super noisy? I mean, check out this space heater I found it's sleek, puts out good heat, and is quiet. Why can't someone make a miner like that?
Manufacturers are cashing in on industrial-scale miners because they know that’s where the money is. They don’t make those loud old models anymore. It's all about those mega-miners now. They don't want to deal with warranty claims for small home miners when they can supply huge farms.
I’ve modded a bunch of loud miners to run quieter, and honestly, who’s gonna spend on a fancy space heater miner when they can just adjust their existing rig?
Totally agree. Most folks who know their way around mining gear will just DIY a solution. And honestly, a custom-built PC for both heating and mining could be super useful for other stuff too.
Yeah, price-wise it doesn't add up. You could get a Vornado heater for way less than an Apollo miner which costs almost a grand. Plus, you’d be paying more for energy over time, and efficiency just dwindles with older models.
I think chips have more to do with power efficiency than cooling. When the chips convert energy, it’s just a trade-off. But yeah, the more efficient the chips, the more hashrate at lower heat.
That’s a good point. Miners need to stay cool to mine efficiently. If it gets too hot, performance drops. People often miss that heat can degrade electronics. There are folks in cold regions who make it work, but it’s tricky.
Bitmain tried the Antminer R4, but it flopped. Graphics cards are still the go-to for home miners. If you're gonna mine, you want the best you can get.
Sure, 1000W will heat up a space, but what if you spread out the heat source? Bigger heatsinks might help. You could design it to look more like a radiant heater.
Yup, I imagine a miner that doesn’t scream at you would sell better. Why cram everything into a tiny noisy box when you could have a wall-mounted heater?
This is kinda funny. I’ve thought of the same thing too! My heating bills spike in winter, so why not multi-task? I’ve set up my Apollo next to my gaming rig for extra warmth.
