What Happens to Bitcoin Mining After All Coins Are Mined?

So, I’m wondering what happens once all 21 million bitcoins are mined. Right now, miners earn rewards from both block rewards and transaction fees. But once that cap hits, will they only rely on transaction fees? Is it still gonna be worth it?

This should be in General Discussion. And kinda funny how it got moved back here. Also, there’s a similar topic already... maybe check that out before posting. But fees? They’re just whatever people are willing to pay.

Yeah, but honestly, predicting transaction fees is a total gamble. Each block has different transactions and fees. We can’t really know. Once all coins are mined, miners will just get fees... but I bet Bitcoin’s price will be way different then.

That’s a silly question tho. Who can say what Bitcoin will be worth a century from now? Or how much fees will be? Plus, who knows about electricity costs or mining difficulty? We might not even be around! So, yeah, totally a nonsense question but my answer is yes, mining won’t stop.

But I thought it made sense here since it’s about mining... you know? I saw that other thread, but didn’t find any answers to my question, so I just posted this.

Not sure why you're so worked up but you’ve got some good points. But if a lot of these "unprofitable miners" leave, doesn’t that make it more centralized and easier for 51% attacks? Just saying, in a crazy scenario.

We can’t predict exactly what will happen once all bitcoins are mined. The whole idea is that mining needs to keep going. Fees could skyrocket, or maybe there’d be competition bringing prices down... who knows? Bitcoin still has a long way to go.

That other thread talks about reaching the cap and rounding issues... which honestly doesn’t really matter. Sounds like someone doesn’t get it and is just trying to spin a story.
