Bitcoin mining is a real power guzzler. With more and more miners jumping in, is there a chance we might see tech that helps reduce energy costs?

Yeah, if Bitcoin shifted from PoW to PoS, energy use could drop to 10% or even lower. But that would centralize Bitcoin, making it more security-focused than commodity-like, which is a pretty big deal.

Definitely possible, just like any tech advance. Better ASICs, improved energy sources, all that jazz. But timing and costs are the big questions. Prices for new GPUs are climbing too. It’ll be similar for ASICs, but probably slower.

If super-efficient chips come out, miners will just buy more of them. Difficulty would likely spike but energy use might stay the same. If prices don't drop for a while, only then would people stop their rigs.

New ASICs can lower the cost of mining while boosting profit margins. Swapping from older to newer models like S9 to S19 shows that. For sure switching saves energy but could hurt security if revenues drop.

Mining growth depends on profits. New nuclear plants might pop up, but electricity costs will keep rising. So, miners will flock to places where power is cheaper.

Wait, is that why Vitalik's ideas for Bitcoin didn’t go through?

Not sure if there’s an affordable energy source coming soon. Right now, cheap electricity is hard to find, which is a miner's worst nightmare. If it ain't profitable, farms will just shut down.

Yeah, moving to PoS doesn’t automatically make a coin a security. But it does risk centralization, which totally goes against Bitcoin’s spirit. Vitalik’s not really a player in Bitcoin development anyway, right?

Switching to PoS may save energy but don’t think it’s a wise move. The community probably wouldn’t back it. Current machines are already pretty efficient looking at tech history.

Half a year after the S1 dropped, the hashrate skyrocketed. With current gear, we’re pushing 6000MW, way more than back in the day. So much for efficiency gains.

Rising energy use proves mining is still profitable. Lowering mining costs could make profits skyrocket. With new tech, you’d expect energy use to drop, but that might actually not happen.

I think solar energy could really help cut down on mining costs. PoW to PoS also depends on mining tech. Honestly, I believe there's a future tech that can lower that electricity bill.
