I’m a bit confused... why did Bitcoin mining go from CPU to GPU and now to ASIC? I get the block size is limited, but if it hasn’t changed, why do we need better hardware?

Been there, done that! I had 22 GH with GPUs back in the day. Now the network's at 1000 EH. Those GPUs would burn so much power, it's insane! ASICs just do it better, less hassle.

Totally agree. Mining difficulty keeps going up, so you gotta keep upgrading. Since 2016, the hash rate just blew up. Good luck competing with old GPUs for Bitcoin now.
