I've been curious about mining for a while, especially Ethereum, but now it's a proof of stake deal. So, I’m left with Bitcoin. Can I even start mining it now, or is it too late? Got some hurdles to tackle.
Is Now the Right Time to Start Mining?

Honestly, your questions won’t help much unless we know a few key things. What’s your electricity cost? Any outages or voltage issues? Where are you putting the rig?
You could also look into mining some altcoins like Litecoin or Dogecoin. But let’s be real, profits depend on costs. Are you ready to cover the expenses and make a profit before the halving?
If you're paying under 2 cents per kWh, it might be worth snagging some used ASICs and getting back into mining. But if your electricity supply is unstable, you risk frying your gear.

When the bull market kicks in, mining rig prices usually go up too. Not as wild as GPU price spikes, but still relevant. But even with ideal conditions, you’ll need time to hit break even.
Miners are loud... they produce a ton of heat... and they eat through power like it’s nothing. If you're in the U.S. on 120 volts, a single L3+ is a decent choice. You can connect it to NiceHash for BTC.
Right now is probably one of the worst times to jump into mining as a newbie. With the halving coming up, you might not even break even in a few months unless prices soar.
One miner said the payback period for an S19 could be from 80 to 300 months after the halving. That’s brutal, especially if electricity is around 5 cents and Bitcoin's at 35k.

Instead of focusing on Bitcoin prices, think about your electricity costs. High power rates can totally ruin your mining plans.
Yep, cost of electricity can’t be overstated! If it’s more than your potential returns, you’re just wasting money.
Check out the top mining companies and their electricity costs. That’ll give you an idea of what to expect.
I live where the power’s super unstable. Prices are skyrocketing for electricity and generator fuel since subsidies got cut. I’d need solar panels to get consistent power, which is pricey to set up.
Can I jump in with a quick question? Interested in mining but unsure of which coin and if it’s still worth it. I might build a wind turbine for power, but will that even support BTC mining?

This thread seems more suited for beginners or altcoin mining. There’s plenty of chatter on those topics here.
If you’re considering GPU mining, it’s not profitable right now. ASICs are faster with payback but wind/solar setups are hit or miss.
Don’t a lot of miners use green energy these days? I read that more are turning to solar and wind due to eco-regulations.

If you’re in a good location for wind or solar, it could work out, but you’ll need reliable batteries to sustain mining.

Not sure if now’s the best time to start. With the halving approaching, profits will drop. Better to buy Bitcoin now and hold instead.
I think miners use nuclear or hydropower too. That can be considered green energy, right?
Good point. It’s all about having a reliable energy source. The costs of power are a huge part of mining viability.
