Do new mining rigs tend to get cheaper when bitcoin's value drops?

For sure, but it's not as quick as folks think. Takes time, could be months, and depends on demand. A lot of miners pay premium prices, so the S19 might still go for 7k even if profits fall a bit. Just keeps that 'dumb demand' slowing everything down.

Exactly. And sellers often hang onto their gear, hoping for a better market. They'd rather wait it out than sell cheap, because they think prices or difficulty might change.

Mikey nailed it. We need those prices stagnant for a few weeks for any real drop to happen. I snagged an S17 for about 785 during the COVID shutdown. It takes a real slump to see the changes.

From what I've seen with GPUs, used cards can drop in price pretty fast. Usually within a week for older cards, but new ones take a bit longer.

Selling a miner isn't just about the price. There's time involved. You've gotta dismantle, box it up, ship it. Sometimes it's just easier to leave it running than go through all that hassle.

Oh yeah, and don't forget the tax implications in the U.S. If you wrote off a machine and then sell it for more, you're gonna owe some taxes.

Right, but I've been reading about the perks of mining in the U.S. What’s the advantage, though?

Political stability plus tax benefits like depreciation are big. But energy costs can be steep in some areas, plus import taxes.

If you’re not a U.S. citizen, mining outside your country can be risky. What if sanctions hit? They could seize your gear anytime. Better to stick to your home turf.
