So I’ve been using the R909 for almost a year. It’s got a solid cooling setup but you need to manage your expectations. I bought it for around 600 euros but now they're going for about 480. Quite a steal given the current Bitcoin market.

Yeah, it's a nice deal, but honestly, can we talk about the risks? You might as well just gamble on a solo mining lottery with it. I mean, for the same price you could grab a decent GPU.

But it’s not just about profit, right? It’s more like a fun project or hobby. Like, sure, you won't make bank, but it’s nice to tinker with.

I get that, but you have to face it. Investing in these miners doesn’t really pay off. It’s all about the tinkering and maybe getting lucky.

Honestly, I’ve tried a bunch of these miners including the Apollo and Moonlander. I did hit a Doge block once, but that’s like winning the lottery.

True, but GPUs only work for altcoins. If we’re talking BTC, these ASICs are more efficient, even if they’re a gamble.

Seriously though, the specs say 1.5TH under 100 watts, but honestly, I’ve seen 1.65TH to 1.75TH in testing. Performance can vary.

Yeah, I found that out too. And about the fan noise, it’s not too loud for me, but I guess some folks are more sensitive to it.

I think the noise is fine for mining. If you’re using it at home, it’s noticeable, but not a dealbreaker. Plenty of fans are louder.

Anyone here using it with a Raspberry Pi? I tried with two R909s and got a weird error on one. Is it dead or fixable?

Re-flashing the Pi might help. Sounds like an SD card issue or something got corrupted.

I’ve had that issue before too. Just try switching the USB ports first, might help.

Good call. I’ve swapped ports and cables, but still no luck. Guess I’ll try the re-flash.

So what do you guys think about the v2 Apollo? It has some extra features that could make it worth it.

Yeah, I heard it can be a Linux PC too. That makes it more versatile than just a miner.

I’d say the R909 is more of a dedicated miner. If you want flexibility, the Apollo v2 might be the better choice.

Good points! I’m still leaning towards getting an R909 though, just for the fun of it.
