Utilizing Excess Heat from Mining

I’ve seen that many serious miners use excess heat to warm apartments and even whole cities. Anyone know how this actually works? Do they just blow warm air out with fans? Seems like it would cool off fast once it hits the outside. Are they storing it somehow?

Some miners do store it temporarily, but mostly they use insulated pipes to move heat around buildings or districts. It’s pretty cool how they can even use hot water in pipes to minimize heat loss. Gotta check out new ideas for heat repurposing in crypto.

Heat from miners usually only hits about 50°C, so its uses are limited. One impressive example: it’s heated over 7000 apartments which cuts down on electricity and reduces carbon emissions. There’s also greenhouse farming where they maintain temperatures using this heat.

"7000 apartments?" How? How do they transfer the heat without losing it? It’s not like they’re using boiling steam. Someone should show a video of how they connect the mining heat to the buildings. If it’s only lukewarm, by the time it reaches them, it’ll be cold.

Yeah, minimizing wasted heat is nice and all, but what about the costs? Channeling that heat efficiently seems tricky with high installation costs. Plus, heat transfer isn’t efficient at all, even with insulated pipes.

This topic’s also been discussed on my local board. Finding solid data on using miners’ heat for apartments is tough. I researched those 7000 apartments but came up empty. If anyone has links or info, share please! I did see one miner heating his house with rigs.
