Problems with mining Bitcoin using CPU and Core

I'm really struggling with this mining stuff. Just trying to hash these blocks and get results lower than the threshold for VERGE. I've got a couple of friends helping me, but we’re using their machines to mine with CPU and Bitcoin Core. I looked up how to mine Bitcoin Core but... I’m lost.

Dude, just check the sticky post in the mining section. That's really where you should be asking this. Trust me, you can’t mine Bitcoin with CPU anymore.

Seriously, did you even read the first message I pointed you to? Look, the main area for Bitcoin mining is different from where you posted. You're in the wrong section, man.

You can mine some altcoins with CPU, but not Bitcoin. The CPU mining option for Bitcoin was removed ages ago because it's just not feasible anymore. Look into altcoins like Monero. They still have CPU mining.

I’m not into altcoins, though. Followed the link you suggested, but my connection to the pool is super slow.

Can you explain that a bit more? Is that why I can’t get back to a pool? Even with Linux and tweaking the settings... how do real miners manage to mine?

They don’t mine with CPU. Like, a regular miner today is millions of times faster than a CPU. Even then, the chances of finding a block in a day are really low.

Like n0nce said, really look at the pinned topics, especially point-3. The Bitcoin difficulty is so high that CPU/GPU mining is almost impossible. That’s why the mining code was removed from Core. You can't even connect to any BTC pool without it.
