Edit: You can find Kano's setup instructions here. Hey folks, So, I think some of you might've seen the presale hype already, but we’ve got a new stick miner based on the S17 BM1397 chip. We’re calling it the Compac F. It's bright red. Really eye-catching.

TAKE MY MONEY! It’s wild to see stickminers hitting these speeds. If only we had a time machine, right? A decade ago this would've been a goldmine! Kudos on keeping the innovation going. You've set a high standard for other miners.

I grabbed one already! Quick question though, I noticed newpacs used S9 chips. The S9s hit 13.5 TH/s with 189 chips or around 71 GH/s per chip. I've had some newpacs running close to those speeds. If S17 chips can hit 380 GH/s each, does that mean we might see 600-700 GH/s in the future? Just curious, not saying it’s a guarantee.

Nope. If you check the first post, it’s around 360 GH/s at 15W. It could run faster but you'd need more power to do that.

When can we snag these on bitshopper?

Not happening mainly for two reasons: One, Bitmain doesn’t sell bare chips in the quantities we’d want. Two, Sidehack aims for miners that are home-friendly, ideally under 1KW for lower fan noise.

We’re working on a larger miner (finally!) but it won’t be 3KW and it won’t use Bitmain chips. Not sharing too much until we have actual prototypes ready. Delivery set for the end of September; right now it’s all about gathering parts for production.

The driver-gekko.c/driver-gekko.h files have all the info for the BM1387 and soon the BM1397 once I update my git.

What’s the upgrade process for existing gekko-cgminer on a Pi4 for the new driver? Fresh install or can we add it to our current version?

You’ll need to compile a new version from the updated source code that includes BM1397 support.

So I gotta reinstall cgminer using Kano's version from his git, right?

Yeah, or you could cherry-pick the necessary commits once they’re available and apply them to your setup.

Another reason it's taking longer for hardware is driver verification. Kano made some significant changes. We need to check backward compatibility with older hardware first. Don’t want you updating cgminer and it only works on the Compac F, right?

I noticed all vh's code is already in my cgminer git. The update for the BM1397 chip is in progress, along with changes to make the code easier to manage.

That’s exactly what I was hoping for. So same process, just a different source? The instructions I followed before still apply?

You got it! Just waiting for everything to be ready before pushing it live. I’ll do full device testing first to make sure everything works smoothly.
