Need Help Recovering Funds from Old Multisig Wallet

Hey guys, I’m Val and I’ve been struggling with something from way back... In 2016, I bought 10 euros worth of bitcoin and stored it in a multisig wallet on Coinbase. Now I see about 800 euros in my account, but I have no clue how to withdraw it to my bank.

First off, never used Coinbase Wallet, so can’t share personal experience. When you say you see your funds, are you talking about your actual wallet or the Coinbase exchange? If it’s the exchange, you can sell straight from there. If it’s the wallet, I assume you already have access and can transfer it to an exchange.

I’ve never worked with the Coinbase multisig vault either, but from what I found online, you need an extended private key to recover it. If you have that, there’s a guide for restoring it with Electrum. If not, check this thread; it might help with a similar issue.

Sounds like he’s talking about the vault wallet. Honestly, I don’t think there’s any tool left for recovering that. If you made your account in 2016, you need to use your 2nd email as a co-signer to withdraw funds.

Here’s a pic of what I see on Coinbase. My account shows 800€, but I can’t sell anything. I reached out to Coinbase support, but they’ve ghosted me. Feels like I’m stuck with this cash forever.

You might've received a phishing email. Are you sure it's Coinbase we’re talking about? And why would they say you need both keys to access vault funds? That just sounds off. No announcements from Coinbase about ending their vault support either.

Wait, you mean a scammer? I thought I was getting a legit response from Coinbase. The email wasn’t super clear, tho. I did find an old message; they said they’d stop supporting multisig vaults back in 2018.

The vault tool is dead now. But I heard someone made a working version a while back; just don’t know about its safety. If it still works, you should definitely move your coins fast.

The usage is pretty similar to the old tool. Check the detailed instructions on GitHub. You’ll need to run the project with npm and use Python for the local server. Input your xpubs in the first step.

That guide probably won’t help you out, OP. You need to recover a 2-of-3 multi-sig wallet, but that thread talks about 2-of-2. Not the same situation.

Try this: download the zip from GitHub, extract it, and open it in Chrome with a special parameter. I can’t promise it will work, tho.

If your wallet is 2-of-3 and you have two keys, you should be able to spend your coins. I’d suggest installing Electrum and running it safely, maybe using Tor for privacy.

I’ve got two keys, but the one Coinbase holds is encrypted. I can’t just import that into Electrum. What gives?

Can’t they decrypt it? What’s the point of that encryption if you can’t access it?

I’ve got all the info needed, but I’m still lost on how to use it. Any guidance would be great.

You have the encryption password, right? You should be able to decrypt that shared key. Just need to figure out how, which algorithm to use, and what tool to apply.

Tried that but no luck. I need a wallet address starting with 3, but I have no clue how to get one. I’ve spent hours trying to get info, and I’m hitting a wall.

It’s strange that I never got any recovery keys when I set up my vault back in 2015. Just had 2FA and a secondary email for backup. Now they’ve got recovery tools on GitHub asking for keys.

Are you saying you can withdraw from the multisig vault just with 2FA? That sounds off since they don’t even support it anymore.
