I just tried to load my wallet.dat from 2020 and saw this migration notice for version 27.1.0. Do I really need to do this right away? The addresses are all bc1q, so are there any issues I should worry about or is it simple?
Not sure what will happen, but definitely back up your wallet.dat before importing it. Like, keep the original safe first. Use a copy to import to the latest Bitcoin Core instead. Should be fine, but better safe than sorry.
Yeah, that sounds good. Just remember to make a backup of the new wallet, too. It's always smart to have both your old and new backups handy in case something goes wrong later.
If you wanna use future updates after v29.0, definitely go for it. Just check the GitHub issues for updates on when this gets rolled out. So, are you talking about a wallet created in v27.1.0? That one will be good to go with the next versions since it’s a descriptor wallet in SQLite.
