You sure you wanna share that VHD file? Sounds risky.
Maybe the password's strong, and the other files aren't as important? Just a thought.
If you really want to recover it, the deep recovery needs to be done on the actual disk, not just an image.
Yeah, the password is strong. This laptop is junk anyway, nothing else of value on it.
So PyWallet read the image and found 109 private keys... but importing them to Electrum was a bust. Just encrypted keys left.
Gotcha... Is there a workaround? Only way to meet up for my passphrase is kinda shady.
Contact this website for recovery services if you haven't already.

Decrypting those keys is a nightmare. Better off with a pro. What wallet were you using on that notebook?
Honestly, I tend to forget my passwords from years ago. Might need to guess a few.

Since you have that image, you might as well try running PyWallet yourself with possible passphrases.
You should use Python 2.7 from Miniconda. It’s easier to run PyWallet that way.
Just a heads up, PyWallet crashed on me after retrieving a bunch of possible keys... no luck.
Thanks for the info, gonna give it a shot tonight. But if there are missing bits in that key, PyWallet might not show that.
I’m sure I have the password... it’s complex, like the key itself too.
Long story short, I lost 1.5BTC on an SD card in 2014. That laptop's my last shot.
Some say the Mega link is a hassle, any suggestions for better file sharing? File size is huge.
I uploaded it to some site. Just compressing it to speed things up and will let you know when it’s ready.
Appreciate it! Here are the.dat files I have, super damaged. Not much to see.
Heard that the first character might’ve been removed by recovery. Have you thought about sharing the password with that guy who checked the files?
