So, I just saw this news about a guy in the Netherlands getting arrested for stealing bitcoin and laundering it... I wonder if he was behind some old Electrum hack. Seems like he thought he could get away with it, but he got caught instead.

Yeah I read the report too. Pretty wild stuff. They must have put in a lot of work to track him down. Sounds like they seized a bunch of stuff as evidence. Gotta hand it to the Dutch Police for their effort.

Returning those coins could still happen if they can trace the addresses. It might not be too hard, unless he already converted them into something else. I mean, a lot of hackers don’t really live responsibly, right?

Wait, are we sure he was just a thief? Maybe he was trading? Like, if he was offering Bitcoin for Monero, sounds like legit trading to me. If I did that on an exchange, it’d be fine. Not sure why this is illegal…

Trading on exchanges vs. P2P is a big deal. P2P can expose you if the buyer is shady. But yeah, you’re right about sources of funds. Exchanges usually take care of that; no worries if you pick the wrong buyer with P2P. That's risky business!
