Hey everyone
Not trying to freak anyone out here, but I’ve got a theory. Just noticed that a huge chunk of mining power vanished from Bitcoin, like 50% at least. This has never happened before. Difficulty is adjusting, so that’s cool, but... what if this is some sneaky attack by Chinese miners?
Is There a Secret Mining Attack on Bitcoin?

Aren't 51% attacks usually super risky? I mean, sure, they can do it, but at what cost? It would really mess with trust in crypto, right? Plus, it isn't just tech; it would take a ton of energy and resources.
For real, it could turn into a total chain war over which one is the real Bitcoin. And if it starts, introducing a checkpoint might be too late. Still, can’t we limit chain reorgs to... I dunno, 12 blocks? That might force attackers to show their hand sooner.
Yeah but checkpoints aren’t really made for that. You can’t just babysit Bitcoin all the time. We moved on from that to assumevalid. Hasn’t anyone considered how pointless it is if someone genuinely wants to attack?
True, but it can help. Like Bitcoin Gold, they used checkpoints against a 51% attack... didn’t they? Just trying to think of ways to counteract any possible shady moves by miners.
I think this moment is kinda special. A state actor could be using the hashed power to attack Bitcoin, and if they do it right, the damage could be pretty severe. Bitcoin’s whole value is based on that irreversibility, folks.

Nah, it didn’t vanish overnight. Go check the diff changes over the last month. It’s been dropping gradually... not some sudden 50% drop. You can’t just throw out numbers like that without proof!
Sure, but if someone planned this out, they could time a big attack to come back with new gear. I mean, it’s close enough to worry me. Long-term implications of rollback scare me. Fingers crossed it doesn’t happen.
Kid you not, no way should we go back to checkpoints. It’s complicated and takes time for the network to adopt any changes. If someone is prepped to attack while we’re trying to adjust, we’d be vulnerable.

C’mon, stealth attacks wouldn’t have this much commotion around them. With mining gear moving so much, you can’t claim stealth when you make all this noise.
I mean, it's a gradual process... it's not just overnight. Weight of evidence needs to be there, right?
I think people underestimate 51% attacks. Just because you have the hash rate doesn't mean you can easily push other miners aside. They’ve already got too much invested.
Right? The attackers starting late could fall behind significantly when they realize that they’re soloing it for weeks.
Dude, fabricating transactions is pretty much impossible. The majority wouldn’t even want to use a manipulated chain. Rolling back the chain is way more sensible.
You can technically create transactions as long as you control the outputs but it's messy. But if you can push this separate chain idea, it makes a difference.
The hidden chain strategy has its perks. You can make some serious moves with exchanges before the main chain figures it out. It's risky, but... potential profits are massive!
Yeah, but that kind of attack leaves you in a weird spot. If you’re rolling back history, then what’s left of Bitcoin’s value? Everyone will just panic and dump.
What if that happens? The value of everything just drops... you’d end up holding worthless coins and gear after.
Exactly. If you execute that well, sure you might make a quick buck, but in the end, you’re risking everything by messing with the whole ecosystem.

So, yeah, thoughtful insights here guys. I'm kinda relieved to talk about this without anyone freaking out yet. Let’s stay vigilant!
