Yeah it's pretty much a waste of resources now. You won't find a block with just your CPU or GPU anymore. It's like trying to win the lottery. Honestly, just set up a pool. There are some solo pools charging low fees that are way better options.
Wait, you can still solo mine, right? Just gotta set up a stratum pool with your full node. It's not as easy as it sounds though. You could check some guides if you're serious about it.
Solo mining is technically still allowed, which is funny considering how hard it is now. Just use the command "generatetoaddress <nblocks> <address> <maxtries>" and see what happens.
That command only works on regtest mode dude. It’s just for testing and doesn’t give you real coins. Mining got pulled from Bitcoin Core in version 0.13.
Nah, I'm using generatetoaddress on mainnet. No blocks mined yet, but it showed me it can work with low difficulty.
Things have really changed, huh? While you can solo mine, hitting a block seems impossible with just a wallet. Those solo pools might be the way to go.
Solo mining is basically the same whether it's your own node or a public pool. The real kicker is getting your block confirmed. Pools have faster connections, so they usually beat you to it.

Aha! That clears things up for me. Thanks for the info! Just what I needed.
