Anyone know if I can solo mine Bitcoin on a Mac? I’ve got a Mac Mini M2 and I’d love to do it. Can I mine straight to my own node?

Check the pinned post here, especially point 3… Running your own node is cool, but do you have connections to several BTC nodes worldwide? Otherwise, you might lose a block in an orphan race since you're mining solo.

You could get this and add it to your setup. Looks useful for mining.

You can technically mine BTC on your own node, but it’s super resource-heavy. You’d need to set up stratum v2 for that, which is a lot of work compared to just joining a solo pool like ckpool.

A Mac mini is pretty weak for mining. CPU and GPU mining hasn't worked well for years. You’ll need an ASIC miner, and honestly, the chances of finding a block solo are slim. Better off joining a pool or just buying Bitcoin.

Why even try mining? Just find something else to do with that Mac Mini. Honestly, mining software for Mac is so limited. Even NiceHash doesn’t support it. It's more about firmware updates anyway.

I asked a similar question before, maybe this link helps. You can install Windows on a Mac. Did it myself, but I prefer not to use their OS.

Sure, theoretically you can mine Bitcoin solo on a Mac Mini M2, but it’s not practical or profitable.

Really? Microsoft suggests streaming Windows from the cloud or using Parallels Desktop on Macs with M-series chips. Feels like a hassle.

I installed Windows on my Mac too. Setup is just like any laptop. My Mac was around 9 years old.

But didn’t the Apple M1 come out only a few years ago? You’re talking about older Intel Macs, not M-series. OP was asking about newer machines.

Yeah, mine had an Intel processor too. I like it better cause all apps work on it. The M series has limitations.

Mining Bitcoin solo on a Mac is tough because of how competitive it is. But if you're really dedicated, it’s still doable!
