Is Quantum Encryption Real or Just Hype?

Here's the thing. Even if quantum encryption becomes a reality, once quantum computing really takes off, current encryption methods will be outdated. No way around it. Can't just change things up for classical systems. Feels like we might need to rethink our whole approach to security in a quantum world.

Most of the hype around quantum computing is just theory. Sure, it's often talked about as the future, but how do we actually make it work in practice? We've got theories for quantum tech and nano chips, but the tech we have right now can’t really bring it all together.

Totally feel stuck in this cycle where new breakthroughs are obsolete before we can use them. Not sure quantum encryption is gonna fix our security issues. Maybe we need to redefine what security even is in this context.

Wait, quantum encryption chips have been around since 2021. Just saw Microsoft dropped another quantum chip recently. But let’s be real, quantum encryption is way easier to use than quantum computing itself. QC has a long way to go before it can break current encryption. It's not 'pseudo science' at all. You might wanna look into it a bit more.

That's my point, though. You say it’s a long way off, but it's a constant game of cat and mouse. Just speculating here, but photonic encryption is part of QKD. Not really interested in going down that road since it leads to gating. Maybe I’m off base? I just wanna hear other ideas on how to protect classical systems from QC.

I think we’re gonna see a shift to more secure systems as tech keeps evolving, just like we've done for decades. Old systems fade away, like sha1. I don't see Bitcoin having major issues with this. Combining non-commutative math with cryptography could lead to new systems that are tough for quantum computers to crack.

It might play out like you say, but we're still years away from a real breakthrough. If quantum chips can break encryption, what’s gonna take its place?

Sounds like a classic story in cryptography, which goes back centuries. New algorithms always seem to have a shelf life before they become obsolete.

Implementing quantum encryption is pretty complex, right? If it becomes too hard or resource-heavy, we might have to fallback on older methods, making the new tech useless before it even gets adopted. What about using cryptographic algorithms that resist quantum attacks? Decentralized models like blockchain are tamper-proof and trustless.

This is basically the story of human tech. As we progress, everything gets replaced by something better. Cryptography is just a part of that.

You nailed it. The history of cryptography is all about innovation being outpaced. But that doesn't mean we should dismiss quantum encryption as nonsense. Instead, we should view the 'expiration dates' of our current methods as a chance to create new, better security solutions.
