Thinking of renting a small office for my s19j pro. The place has AC but not much airflow. Can AC cause issues for miners? Room's about 13x13 feet. Can I fit one miner in there? What if I scale to five?
The s19 is basically a 3.2kw space heater, each one pumps out over 10,000 BTUs of heat. Whatever AC they have in the building won’t handle that heat. It's not built for mining.
I kinda agree and disagree here. You might run one miner in that space without extra cooling, but it really relies on how powerful the AC unit is and your local climate. I’ve had miners in similar spots without issues, especially with the UK weather. My other farm runs just on passive cooling with no fans or AC and has 54 miners.
That Amazon link is a portable AC. I tried using it with a miner in a small room. Honestly, it didn’t cool well. You feel both hot and cold, plus it makes the miner sticky. I switched to exhaust fans to get rid of the hot air instead of using AC.
If you're mining in a finished space like a carpeted office, outside cold air is a must. In hot climates, mining in unfinished spaces with big industrial fans helps. I can't figure out how folks in Florida or Texas mine at home without winter! But I guess Dubai miners have their methods too. AC just won't cut it over 80 degrees outside.
@HagssFIN, do NOT use that 13x13 indoor AC. It's risky. Cold air without filters and open spaces is a bad idea. Dust can clog up your hardware. Better to have an open window with a fan to keep dust away.
It's frustrating how the OP just wants validation for their AC choice, ignoring better solutions. People do that all the time here when they ask for help.
I checked the Amazon link for that 10,000 BTU AC. It has an exhaust duct so it should vent hot air out. But OP, can you actually vent it outside? If it just goes into another room, that room will get hot and humid. If it can vent outside, then maybe it’ll work.
Airflow is the key to cooling. I rented a warehouse with 100KW 3-phase power in Texas. Just keep the air flowing in and out, filter it to avoid dust. Plus, AC will hike your power bill way up, likely eating into your profits.
So, if OP adds a portable AC with the built-in unit and vents it outside, that should cool things down. But if the AC vent blows hot air back into the room, it's pointless.
That's a strange take. Thermal shock isn't about humidity! It affects connections when materials expand and contract at different rates. It needs significant and quick temperature changes to be an issue.
Right... I've been designing industrial power electronics and cooling systems since '75. Humidity does affect heat transfer, but thermal shock is a different issue. You’re mixing things up.
