If I go long on BTC at $90k, I see it as position 1. Going long again at $91k is position 2. But is it true that most exchanges treat these as a single position?

Doubt any exchange does this. On Bybit, when you open a position, it shows what you put in right away, and if you try to add another, they merge it into one. Probably due to use rules.

I’ve been around Binance, Bybit and like a dozen others, never saw a feature like that. Makes grid trading a pain. Maybe multiple accounts on MEXC is the way to go. Subaccounts on Bybit don’t help with derivatives, though.

Had the same issue. Both my positions merged and I got liquidated when the market turned. Some exchanges let you trade long and short on the same pair now, though. But subaccounts? Not sure if that's how it works.

Using a single account limits you. If you set up multiple accounts, one with x2 use, another with x5, you can manage your trades better. Just remember their policy though, they might not like it.

Totally feel you. Trading crypto is frustrating that way. You see a good opportunity but can't just go all in like with Forex. In crypto, your risk ratio is set from the beginning.

+1, totally agree. The same coin will just average the price out. Different exchanges allow multiple accounts, like Binance letting family members use their KYC.

I think I used an exchange once that allowed it. Not Binance though, can’t recall which one. Definitely, traders would want to open trades at various price levels.

On Bybit, you can do it with different pairs. Like BTC/USDT vs BTC/USDC. Same pair just gives you an average price.

$90k in futures sounds risky. High potential gain but with that kinda risk, I wouldn’t mess with futures, maybe spot trading. Grid trading might work if limits are respected.

Dude, he was just using $90,000 as an example! Chill, read his post again. It’s about the price, not how much he’s putting in.

I feel like Binance doesn’t let you open two positions on the same asset. Tried the multi-asset mode but never got to the bottom of it. I’m out of USDT right now.

Most exchanges have sub-accounts for those things. You can have differing balances, for sure. I’ve got my main account and a couple of subaccounts on Bybit.

Interesting thought! Didn’t think about automating grid trades. Might be worth it if you’ve got a larger capital, but the hassle of manual fixing kinda turns me off.

I tried grid trading once, did not work out. But got a long position to stick now with $50, and it did work. Might just stick with subaccounts for now.

Creating multiple accounts on a DEX is a move. I like ApeX, no KYC needed. Sure it costs to open accounts, but that's a small price for privacy.

It's worth it if you enter limit orders, not instant ones. Like when you place a 90k long and then put another limit at 91k while the first hasn’t filled yet.

To hold long and short on the same asset you need to enable hedging mode. I’ve used it on Binance and Bybit, but it didn’t work for me last time.

@EL MOHA, you can hedge on most derivatives exchanges. I’ve seen this on more than 10 different exchanges, it should be a basic feature.

From what I gather, opening multiple long positions on a centralized exchange is tough, but DEXs like GMX let you do it without issues.
