With all these new regulations popping up, it seems like governments might start going after DEXs for real. Especially the totally decentralized ones that don’t even do KYC. They already messed up with crypto mixers, so why not DEXs next? It feels like they just want to strip us of our privacy.

I don't think so. DEXs are built on decentralized blockchains. Even if the government tries to intervene, they can only mess with the front end. Users can still connect directly to the smart contracts. As long as DEXs keep a low profile, they should be okay.

Yeah, but I’ve seen regulators already target exchanges and mixers. Some exchanges are shutting down because of the pressure. More DEXs are popping up, but I doubt the government can take them all down. It’s just not feasible.

Banning non-custodial swaps would be extreme. Look at Tornado Cash: they arrested the devs, but the protocol keeps running. Just like that, DEXs will survive. Sure, regulations are getting stricter, especially in Europe, but they can't shut down fully decentralized protocols.

Totally agree. DEXs run on smart contracts. Just look at Tornado Cash; it still exists despite the arrests. Governments can block access, but as long as the blockchain is there, DEXs will keep operating.

Who knows if DEXs will face a crackdown? Given how they’ve treated mixing services, it's possible. But it’ll definitely catch people off guard, especially since DEXs are gaining traction now.

I feel like it’s unlikely due to their decentralized nature. But what’s more pressing is how they’ll be classified legally. Will the devs take the heat? It’s a gray area for sure.

In my country, the government had a chance to crack down on DEXs for money laundering but backed off. Too much effort and resources needed. So far, DEXs are still up and running for traders here.

Regulations are already happening, like flagging stolen funds. But why would they push everyone to CEXes? That just adds to the risk of connecting wallets to criminal activities.

Governments might regulate popular DEXs now, but they can’t touch those that pop up after the rules come in. If KYC becomes a must, then what’s the point of using a DEX? They can block websites, but smart contracts remain untouchable.

Decentralization means no clear ownership, but if a team is identifiable, they could get arrested for money laundering. If they’re anonymous, though, governments can just ban the website and hope for the best.

A lot of folks here say DEXs can't be stopped, but I think governments found a way long ago. Many aren’t fully decentralized, so if they locate the operators, it’s easy to shut them down.

Some DEXs are already doing soft-KYC through geofencing. The government might not rush to enforce KYC on DEXs when they can do it through other means.

True, they can't punish code, but they can go after the people using it. Just like mixers, they might not be able to eliminate them, but they can make it harder to access.

Would you still use DEXs if the government imposed harsher sanctions? I think most people would hesitate.

I remember there were discussions about KYC for wallets like Electrum. Banning DEXs is a stretch, though. People will just fork and distribute. Pushback is inevitable.

For now, DEXs seem safe, but who knows what loopholes governments will exploit in the future. They’re like the last frontier of trading without regulation.

Governments definitely prefer centralized exchanges where they can keep a closer eye on everything. Popular DEXs might be targeted first, especially if they think it’s a scam haven.

We’ve been hearing about government action on DEXs for a while now. The truth is, they use DEXs too. Cracking down could backfire and affect them as well. They’ll likely just impose stricter regulations that not everyone can follow.

Interacting with a DEX involves layers of code, so governments can regulate at different levels. Unless developers preemptively deploy upgradable smart contracts, they might face challenges.
