Has anyone else noticed this? I checked a few transactions and saw that average fees on Mempool.space are around 1 sat/vB, yet some people are paying much more than the amount being sent.

Yeah, that's probably an "Inscription" thing. People who go for that stuff seem to be hoping to make a quick buck off gullible buyers.

So they wanna leave their mark on the blockchain? Just checked the transaction, looks like a waste to me. Seriously, the image is just...ugh. Not what Bitcoin was meant for.

Right? It’s like everyone jumped on this trend without thinking. Remember when NFTs were gonna make us all millionaires? Yeah, didn’t quite pan out for most.

Exactly! They’re not really doing this to preserve their legacy, just trying to sell some overpriced digital junk. Inscribing that NFT costs them a fortune in fees.

Totally a scam. It’s just a few people cashing in while the rest lose money. There’s basically no resale value, and the influencers are the ones winning.

This is just so frustrating. Anyone trying to grasp blockchain concepts gets lost in this junk.

For Bitcoin, I call it spam. Fees were supposed to cut down on this, but now it’s all lucrative. Just look at Johoe's stats; it's mainly spam clogging it up.

Censorship resistance is important, but this spam is too much. People can create any valid transaction they want, but it dilutes the value.

True, but there are other reasons for differing fees. Like tracking behavior if you always use the same fee rate, it’s easier for someone to figure out you own multiple addresses.

If you’re using the same address a lot, that’s a bigger problem than whatever fees you’re paying. Mempool.space shows tons of transactions with similar fees. Linking them is more of a guess.

I think you misunderstood me. Reusing addresses can make it easier to cluster them, but it also applies to new ones. Using two different addresses in separate wallets can still raise privacy issues.

I’m using Bluewallet on my iPhone and saw the average fee is like 3 sat/vB while Mempool shows only 1. If someone isn’t checking, they might end up paying a lot more.

OP’s transaction actually paid 1 sat/vbyte, just a big one. But yeah, looking at fees and understanding the mempool is key for saving money.
