Was the Chinese Mining Ban Intentional to Protect BTC Hash Rate?

I was just thinking... could the mining ban in China be a strategic move to keep the BTC hash rate stable? It happened right before the power crisis kicked off, which seems a bit suspicious. Maybe they wanted to avoid a hash rate collapse to show they still care about Bitcoin. What do you all think? Could this actually be a possibility?

You might want to check the facts here. I mean, the hash rate did drop pretty dramatically after the ban. 45% drop in just a couple months, from around mid-May to July. If they were trying to prevent a decline, they kinda failed, right?

I get where you’re coming from, but what if the energy shortage was the main cause? Like, if they pulled the plug super fast, that might explain the drop better than a slow decline due to the ban. Just curious if anyone sees a link between mining costs and the power crisis.

Nah, a slow decline just adds to the uncertainty. If they wanted to handle it better, they wouldn’t have let it drop so much. A 45% drop with that delay just messes everything up, it would take ages to adjust the difficulty.

Didn’t think about it like that. I should definitely read more about how mining works. Appreciate the insights!
