So I was reading about solo mining and CKPool. If I got it right, CKPool isn’t the same as the solo pools from way back. They combine weaker devices' hash rates, but the reward goes to the miner who actually finds the block. Is that the deal?

Yeah, you nailed it. CKPool miners are kinda like solo miners, but they don’t need their own nodes. The one who finds the block gets 98% of the reward and transaction fees. The remaining 2%? That's for the CKPool operator. Unlike traditional pools, where rewards are split based on hash rates.

Exactly! Most pools distribute rewards based on how much hash rate you contribute. They pool together to increase block reward chances. So if you contribute more, you get a bigger cut when they do get a block.

Right, but CKPool does it differently. No split based on hash rates there. Only the miner who finds the block gets the reward, but you don’t have to run your own node to participate. Others in CKPool don’t get anything if they don’t find a block.

I’m just getting into this, but most pools I thought used hash rates to calculate rewards. If they give the whole profit from a mined block to the miner, what about the transaction fees? Do they get those too?

Definitely! Any decent pool includes the transaction fees in their distribution process.
