Sheriff McNamara is reportedly unfazed by Bitcoin Depot’s lawsuit, telling them to basically go away. They’re suing him because he seized $15,000 from one of their ATMs after an elderly woman got scammed.

I have so many questions about this. Like, how did they even get to that amount? The scammers told her to withdraw $15k and deposit it in the ATM, but doesn’t it just generate a wallet for that cash? Can’t send it elsewhere, right?
From what I read, her funds were actually still in the wallet and she got them back. So did anyone really get scammed? Seems like a waste of time for Bitcoin Depot to sue, but maybe they want to stop this from happening in the future.

Yeah, it sounds like they’re trying to protect their business. But honestly, the sheriff should’ve just put the money in court and let a judge decide. That’s the right move, imo.
"Go after everyone except the scammers" is so true! Authorities need to actually do their jobs and protect victims. It’s wild that they can’t trace these scams in real-time.
Wait, you can’t send Bitcoin after buying it? That’s news to me. I thought it was all traceable, but apparently not. I also heard that Bitcoin Depot can’t really track where the coins go after you buy them.

Bitcoin Depot is being ridiculous! They should’ve just accepted the seizure. It was clearly a scam attempt. Now they want the money held until a judge decides? What if the victim can’t prove it’s fraud? That’s just wrong.
How do these ATMs even work? I saw a video where if you spend a lot, they take your pic and ID but don’t check the wallet. It’s crazy how easy it is for scammers!
This lawsuit seems like a power struggle. Sure, the sheriff has some authority, but the victim deserves her money back without all this hassle. I just don’t get why Bitcoin Depot is making this so complicated.
