So apparently Tether’s CEO said they have $8 billion in gold stashed away in a super secure vault in Switzerland. He didn’t give exact deets on where, just that it’s in Switzerland.
Tether's Massive Gold Holdings in Switzerland

This is interesting because the gold they have is basically a tokenized version, right? I mean, XAUT isn’t the physical gold itself. Just a token that represents it. If they keep buying actual gold, maybe XAUT will stabilize more.
Exactly, having gold backing makes Tether look more trustworthy than being backed solely by fiat. Gold’s value tends to be more reliable over time. With the current gold price surging, this could be a good move for them.

Gold at 4.5k per ounce? I wouldn’t doubt it hitting 5k soon. But honestly, Tether’s claims are hard to trust. They could just say they have 80 billion in gold, and I still wouldn’t believe it. It’s all just talk.
Right? The CEO talks up gold over dollars, but they still issue a stablecoin tethered to the dollar. Seems like a weird contradiction. And what’s with this mythical vault in Switzerland? Sounds sketchy for an American company.
Gold reserves definitely offer some stability. But how do we even know the gold exists? Has it been audited? I haven’t read everything yet, but I’m actually kinda impressed with what Tether’s trying to do.
In a world where things are getting chaotic, gold hitting $5k seems likely. USDT might be under scrutiny, but it’s still the top stablecoin, no matter the controversies.
Haha, I think we’re all a bit skeptical about Tether’s claims. Their supposed 1:1 backing of USDT to USD has always been questionable. I mean, if USD can be printed out of thin air, gold sounds way more legit.

It’s like they’re saying the more assets you have, the more options you get, right? But the rich keep getting richer while the rest of us just... well, wait. Gotta love how Switzerland is the go-to for asset storage.

If Tether messes up with the gold reserves, XAUT holders could be in deep trouble. Price fluctuations in gold could swing XAUT’s value drastically.
That’s just how investing works. Every investment has risk. If they chose gold, it’s probably because it’s less risky than other currencies that can tank quickly. Plus, if they bought gold in the past, they’d be in a better spot right now.
