We're just getting into this whole mining thing and super confused about which ASIC miner to buy. Looking at ones around 100-140 TH. How long do you think they last? And how's profitability gonna look after the bitcoin halving? We're thinking of doing a 10kw off-grid solar setup too.
Starting ASIC Mining with Solar Power in India

10kw solar won’t cut it for your miner. You’re asking about profits way too far ahead. My guess is the miner could last anywhere from a week to four years. With 10kw, you might spend 4 on the miner and 6 on batteries. If you're in a sunny area, you could get around 18-20 hours of mining a day.
Yeah, but those calculations say 20 batteries would give decent runtime, but what happens when the solar output dips? We’ll probably rely on the grid for those times.
Before diving in, consider your budget and how much risk you can handle. Technical know-how is key too. One failed miner out of ten is rough, but having just one? That’d feel terrible. With 10k solar, you might only power one S19 unit, and if it fails, good luck fixing it.
We're starting small, just one ASIC miner to test if solar works. We're aware of the risks. ROI isn’t our main focus right now, just exploring mining. I’ve used some calculators online but in my area, power outages are frequent.
I’m pretty sure solar works. We’ve got a few large installations in NJ. They last over 20 years. Batteries could be a problem, though. Regular ones last 3-5 years unless you go lithium, which is better. If you're building a 10k setup, think about using GPUs instead of S19s. They have longer warranties and can earn BTC through nicehash.
GPU mining? I heard it can't hash enough to mine bitcoin like ASICs. Can you explain more?
True, GPUs aren’t great for bitcoin mining. But you can mine other cryptos and convert them to BTC using services like nicehash. It’s not as bad as it sounds.

Not trying to be a downer, but at this scale, it’s not gonna work financially. No need to crunch numbers, you won’t see a solid return on that investment. Consider putting your cash into a hosted miner near cheaper, greener power. Get started now.
