Sharing My First Mining Setup What Do You Think?

Just wanna share some pics and details about my first mining setup. Super happy with how it’s come together, thanks to tips I picked up here. This could help anyone looking to start small, or just for those who love mining like I do. I'm actually working on my third project now, so I’ll post about that later!

Haha, yeah I learned a lot from your posts, but honestly didn’t wanna deal with MDF. That stuff is a pain to work with! I found insulation boards that are way easier. A YouTube channel I watch also uses them in big setups. Recticel makes some great ones.

That setup looks legit. Takes some guts and skill to do that at home. You’re lucky with your power costs. What temps are you seeing? Any issues with overheating?

Thanks! Just a heads up, I actually rent some old bunkers for this, not at home. I’ve got a good deal on power here, but it’s limited. On super hot days, the miners did throw up a PSU error once.

Fans are cheap, and since your power is free, crank those suckers up in summer! Keep them running at 90-100%. Just remember, those 17 series machines aren't the best and high temps can mess them up real quick.

Impressive electrical setup you got there! Just a warning, using regular extension cables can be risky. I only have two miners at home connected directly to the grid, and I’ve had a burn incident with my extension.

Really hope your extension cables hold up. I’ve used them on four setups with zero issues. These ones have been running since April 2020, rated for good loads. My Whatsminers were pulling a lot initially, switched to thicker cables.

Can you share how you calculated airflow for your setup? I'm planning to do something similar but with swamp coolers since it gets super hot here.

For me, it's easy since my farm is in a cooler place. Just made sure my fans could handle more air than the miners blow out. For those 17/19 series, expect around 500cfm per miner.

Don’t forget to convert watts to BTU so you know how much heat you're dealing with.

I’d guess I spent about £6000 to set everything up, not counting miners. That’s like $8000.

Anyone know how much heat is expelled by the Antminer S9?

You could estimate it at around 250cfm based on the 17/19 series, but that’s just a guess.

Yeah, I’d say 270cfm is a safer bet. For 50 miners, that’s 13,500cfm. If each miner burns 1450W, then using the conversion, that’s a lot of heat to get rid of.

49 degrees is insane! S9s can be downclocked to reduce heat, using some aftermarket software. You could run them cooler and still get decent hash.
