Hey everyone! Just finished reading a book about trading psychology and came across this wild monkey experiment. It made me look at trading in a whole new way.
Monkey Experiment and the Mindset Behind Trading Addiction

So, the experiment showed that when monkeys got rewards every time they completed a task, they did it quickly. But when those rewards stopped, they bailed on the task. Then it got crazy when the rewards became random. Even after rewards stopped entirely, the monkeys kept doing the task. Kinda like us in trading, right?
Right now, crypto feels like it’s in that phase where rewards are on pause. I mean, the massive gains we used to see are gone since 2018, but we’re still looking back at that history for some comfort, calculating potential gains based on old numbers.

You know, Bitcoin shot up from almost nothing to over 14k in just a few years. But since 2018? It’s less impressive. It’s like we’re all just waiting for those glory days to come back.
And don't forget EOS hitting $21 back in 2018. It was a wild ride! New coins popped up, and people made serious cash on stuff like BNB too. The bull run from 2020 to 2021 was nuts, with Bitcoin skyrocketing and altcoins like Solana and Dogecoin bringing in insane profits.
But isn’t it kinda like gambling? A lot of folks just jumping in without a plan? Trading should be based on strategy, not luck, right?
Totally! Some people confuse trading with gambling, and that's a huge mistake. Real traders don’t just hope to win on every single trade. They have a method that helps them manage risks and make rational decisions.
Exactly! If you're just chasing profits and leaving the market when things get tough, you're acting like those monkeys. It's all about emotional control.

I feel like the real challenge is fighting against our own feelings. Fear and greed dominate trading, even for the pros.
Right, and that's why so many folks have switched to meme coins. They're still hunting for those crazy returns, even if established projects might not make anyone rich anymore.
Every era has its moments. The days of just holding BTC are shifting. We gotta adapt to the new crypto landscape.
This whole idea of intermittent rewards is fascinating. It drives behavior and keeps people hooked. I mean, that anticipation is powerful!
The boring part of trading is learning to deal with that anticipation. It’s not just about reading charts. Risk management is key.

I haven't read that book, but your summary has me curious. If the market rewards you, it’s like it’s begging for your focus, right?
Yep! But the losses? They can mess with your head if you’re not prepared. Gotta learn to roll with the punches.
So true! Those who quit during bear markets and come back only when things go up are like seasonal birds. They don’t evolve!

But what about stocks? Aren't they facing the same issues with more institutional money in play? Does that mean no one can profit anymore?

Haha, good point! honestly, you can choose to be the smart trader or just a lucky monkey hoping for a win!
Beginner traders often feel like they're in a casino, just hoping for luck. That's why they end up losing!

If you're sitting there waiting for the next big hit without a plan, you're just gambling. Trading should be driven by analysis, not chance.
