Too many stale blocks on the moon, lol. Heard latency is between 2.5 to 12 seconds for the moon. Google says GEO latency is about 600 ms, MEO is 180 ms, and LEO is 40 ms. So LEO might work... but costs to set up miners and solar panels in space would be insane. Plus, what if they crash or burn up on reentry? Not gonna happen.

The resources needed for solar panels and getting them into orbit could outweigh the benefits. If we could make them cheaply on the moon, maybe. But there are better ways to use wasted energy than Bitcoin mining, which is already tapping renewables.
Agreed, it's still way too pricey to send anything to space. Plus, the latency is a huge disadvantage for miners on the moon compared to those on Earth. A satellite network might help, but we're not great at harvesting solar energy yet. Operations need to stay on Earth.

Musk said Falcon 9 can send stuff to orbit for $2,700 per kg. An S19 miner is about 13 kg, so just sending one costs $35k. Make it lighter? Still expensive, plus 20 kg for each solar panel. Economic feasibility? Nope. And launching emits more CO2 than coal energy...
And cooling is a real issue. No air in space means no fans. We’d need heatpipes and radiators, which just add more weight.

Exactly, that’s just for one miner at 100TH/s. Like you said, we’d need a ton of miners and solar panels.
Interesting idea, but probably not feasible yet. But think about this... if Bitcoin hits $1 million, rocket companies might charge in Bitcoin to send miners to space. Governments might charge less to support eco-friendly mining.
We’re literally talking about sending Bitcoin to the moon. It could help the environment by not destroying Earth’s resources. Plus, moon days are longer. But still, viability is questionable.
We discussed this before. Bitcoin might not work for interplanetary use due to lag. Unless we discover something like quantum entanglement, mining on Mars is a stretch. The moon might work, but why bother? The dark side needs power from the light side anyway.
This idea of using solar for mining isn’t new. Back in 2017, ranchers in Australia and the US invested in solar systems for crypto mining. Solar energy is seen as cheap and grid-friendly, but legality for miners is still murky.
