If buying an ASIC is too noisy or electricity is costly, consider using USB miners with Raspberry Pi or mini PCs. Setup can be safe and low-energy, but don’t get your hopes too high on winnings. All devices eventually fail.

A few suggestions for you: 1) Apollo BTC from Futurebit 2) Grab a used S9 and modify it 3) Check out heatbit miners. Just a heads up, you will likely lose money overall. Between the purchase and running costs, you might never hit a block. But you probably know that already.

Yeah, I see your point. There are videos showing how to take apart those miners. They’re basically S9 units in custom cases with modified cooling systems. You can flash different firmware if you want to escape their setup.

Right, don’t forget maintenance costs. Just choose wisely, as you mentioned!

If you wanna go the lottery route, just look for something on eBay that fits your budget. But like you and others said, it’s probably a money loss right off the bat. Don’t forget those electric bills unless you got free power.

Whoa, a heater that mines? I’m intrigued! But their profit claims seem way off. They say it’ll earn nearly a grand in a year, but that math doesn’t add up with mining calculators. 10 TH/s for $300? Nah.

I’ve seen threads discussing this before. Not ancient, so you can check out other folks' takes on it. Sure, it’s labeled as lottery mining, but don't expect steady profits. Maybe stick to reliable ASICs if that’s your goal.

Old Antminer S9s might be a good bet if you’re feeling lucky. I saw someone selling 10 for a price that seems decent! Maybe try getting 5 and solo mine?

Why don’t these sellers mine bitcoins themselves using ASICs then? In Russia, you can snag a few for cheap, but they’re likely in rough shape after years of use.

I’m in the market as well! If anyone has old units for sale, hit me up at seema.bhagare@ketto.org.

Where are you based? I’ve got a quiet miner, around 7TH, using a modded Avalon 821.

Using an S9 for lottery mining? That’s just not smart. Better off mining Doge with an L3+. Or mine with that, cash out when it’s worth it.

Exactly! Mining turns energy into value, so if there’s a more profitable route, why not? Even if it is ‘just’ alts.

Check out the GekkoScience USB miner. They have options like a 90 Gh/s stick for about $100. Be cautious though, their website has some sketchy reviews.

Bitaxe from Skot is another option. It’s open source with new chips that are similar to high-end ones.

Yeah, here’s one: the DIY kit for the Bitaxe. Building it yourself could be a fun project!

People are saying the GekkoScience site is a scam. They don't sell directly and just use resellers. Better to avoid those links.
