I just found out I can get electricity for 5 cents per kWh. Thinking about diving into mining, got some cash to spend. Is it even profitable to start fresh with that rate?
Is Mining Profitable with Cheap Electricity?

No clear answer for that. Gotta factor in the miner type and remember that hash rate can change quickly. What looks profitable now might not be in a week.
That rate is pretty good. With something like Bitmain's Antminer S19 XP Hydro, you could see about $12 per day in earnings. But remember, BTC price is volatile and network difficulty keeps rising.
I've heard 5 cents is actually decent. They say around 3 cents is ideal for mining. Plus, the cold climate is a bonus since it helps with cooling.
Yeah, that price is solid, not the best tho. You could also explore altcoin mining. Antminer D9 could pull decent profit, and you can rent it out to earn Bitcoin.
First thing, do you have 240 volts? Much better than 120. You need enough amps too, like 200 at 220-240 volts to run a lot of gear.
Good point. Do you have space for those ASICs? Maybe consider buying a container for them; it's easier to manage and transport if you need to.
Containers for ASICs can go for around 20k and could handle like 150 miners, but need serious power, around 500 kW. OP didn’t mention how much power he has available.
How many miners you wanna run? Keep in mind, ASICs are noisy. Running them in a garage or dedicated space would be ideal to avoid complaints.
You need to think beyond just the initial investment. How stable is this opportunity? If the situation changes, can you adapt?
I saw smaller containers for around 100 ASICs. If you’ve got decent power, it could be a real money maker. But if you’re limited on power, profits could take a hit.
Yeah, with about 20 kW you can run around 7 S19s if you downclock them. But it’s tight and profits can vary.
So you're saying I need at least 1000 kW to really get serious with mining?
Mining's super competitive. Even with cheap power, you're still up against major players. Think about the wear and tear on your miners too.
Honestly, I don't know if 5 cents is really that cheap. Plenty of places are under 1 cent. Competing against those miners is tough.
But isn’t it possible to make it work? I mean 5 cents is still less than a lot of folks pay. You just gotta strategize.
Look, at hydro plants you might see 1 kW production costs much lower, but delivery fees can kill the savings. Large companies get energy even cheaper.
Load capacity matters a ton. Can’t just focus on price. Plus, if you don’t manage noise and heat, it’ll be a disaster.

Yeah, I’ve seen some guys in Russia using ASICs in apartments with super low rates. Makes sense if you love mining.
Honestly, sometimes I wish I had just a few miners. As you scale, the pressure to perform keeps building up.
