Is it worth upgrading the firmware for my S9j?

Just got my first ASIC miner, an Antminer S9j. It’s running well, but I’m wondering if I should upgrade the firmware. Currently, it shows hardware version 16.8.1.3, file system from 2018, and logic version V2.16. Any advice on whether I should upgrade and what version is safe?

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Leave it be unless you run into problems. And check in here before making any firmware changes. Thanks for the fast reply! I totally agree with the "if it ain't broke" mindset. The miner’s performing great, and I just want to make sure I’m not messing anything up by sticking with the current setup.

Honestly, the performance differences between Bitmain firmware versions are barely noticeable. Most from 2018 onward support the Overt Asic Boost, which can save around 20% on power. I also recommend checking out multi-option firmware, it lets you underclock or overclock your miner. I usually go for underclocking to keep temps down.

I have the same model! Tried all the drivers from the official site, and I did notice improvements in stability and lower power use. But the seller had their own drivers installed, and I could adjust everything, even overclocking. Got sketchy vibes when I found out they were using a backdoor to take a cut of my mining profits.
