Is it worth trying solo mining with a decent rig?

Hey everyone, Back in 2018-2019, I mined Bitcoin and made some decent cash. Now it seems tough to profit with just a regular computer. I’ve been thinking about getting into ASIC miners for solo mining but have zero clue how to start or if it’s even worth it. Any guides out there? And if you can recommend a good ASIC miner, I’d be super grateful.

Honestly, it’s all about what you want and your budget. First, decide if you want top performance and can handle noise, heat, and high power use. If that's the case, consider getting a few Bitmain Antminer S19 Pro+ Hyd. They deliver 198Th at 5445W and 50db. If you can’t find them, there are other solid options too. Check this site for a list.

You really don’t want those stick miners. Even with 10 at 300gh, you’re only looking at about 33 cents a day. For small setups, grab a single S9. It’ll also give you around 3th and cost a lot less. Buying 10 USB miners runs in the thousands, while an S9 will cost you just a few hundred bucks. Honestly, stick with Apollo or a single board S9 over the USB options.

Yeah, totally agree. The Compac F is a bit more efficient than the Apollo. Each USB miner is 300GH/s and uses 15W, while the Apollo hits about 2.1TH/s at 120W, super quiet. But the price is a big factor; 7 USB miners would cost you over $1,600, while one Apollo is just about $575. Plus, the Apollo comes ready to roll.

I’ve tried the sticks, the S9s, and the Apollo. Still using the Apollo, and honestly, it’s nearly paid for itself.

Don’t forget about USB hubs and fans, though. That’ll add to your costs. You’ll end up spending about the same as a Compac F. And daisy chaining on a PC can cause issues with kernel drivers. Just saying… don’t even think about trying that on Windows. Bad things will happen.

Nah. The USB miners are way overpriced right now. Supply is low, and people are paying crazy amounts for them.
