I’m from India and I heard bitcoin isn’t illegal here, but it’s not really regulated. The Reserve Bank is watching it closely. If I create a new altcoin, is that illegal? Can I get in trouble if it becomes popular?
Is it allowed to launch a new cryptocurrency?

Nah, I doubt you’ll get arrested. Since bitcoin is legal there, who would even jail you? There are tons of cryptos out there and I’ve never heard of anyone facing jail time just for creating one.
They might ban your coin if it threatens their national currency. Governments don’t want people using alternative payment methods that undermine their control.
I think it’s mostly legal. Many have created their own currencies. But whether it’s accepted widely depends on state policies. Most places probably don’t want new currencies competing.

For sure, you can make your own currency. Lots have done it and listed on exchanges like bitcoin. The real question is if people will support it; if they do, your coin’s value could rise.
Every country has its own laws. I wouldn’t be shocked if many have rules against launching your own currency. That’s why so many devs stay anonymous. Going the ICO route? That could get messy.
True. Even if it’s fine now, laws can change quickly. Competing with the government on something so fundamental isn’t usually a good idea. They’ll find ways to control it if it threatens their power.

I believe it’s fine to create crypto. No central bank is regulating it yet. Go ahead and make your coin!
There are loads of altcoins, including some in India. No worries unless your coin is a scam or ponzi scheme. Just be legit.
The only trouble you might face is if you scam people. If you sell off a pre-mined coin after taking their money, you’ll be labeled a fraud forever.
I’m not trying to scam anyone. Just curious about the legal side of launching a new currency.

You can totally create a new crypto. But if you want it widely used, you might need some approval from local authorities watching out for cyber crimes.
So I guess I’m in the clear then? I’ve seen altcoins focused on India too, like Laxmi coin. No legal issues that I know of.

Yeah, it’s legal to create a new crypto. But turning it into a success takes a lot of effort and strategy to get people interested.
Are you really sure about that? It really depends on where you are. Some countries aren’t too friendly towards this stuff.
You missed the point. Laxmi coin’s developer was in the USA. My concern is more about India.

It seems legal to create new currencies. In the crypto world, it’s fine, but not necessarily in the fiat currency world.
I don’t think starting your own currency is illegal. If you’re in India, the government doesn’t seem focused on regulating this stuff.

You think bitcoin is illegal there? What about altcoins? I believe creating crypto isn’t illegal, but what if you use a VPN? Lots of people do shady stuff and get away with it.
Anyone can create a currency if they hire a dev or have the skills. But launching it and getting it on exchanges costs money. If the state doesn’t legalize bitcoin, how will they approve a new currency?
