With a 10 PH farm, you'll probably pull in about 5 BTC over 3 years thanks to the halving. But honestly, you could just buy 9 BTC with the same initial setup cost now. So why even mine?

Yeah, like what's the point? Is it just for bragging rights? Or a hobby? Or maybe a way to keep getting BTC without buying it outright? I mean, people should invest their cash how they see fit. But if everyone thinks like this, who's left to mine and secure the network?

Good points. But really, only big miners would have reasons like avoiding money laundering issues or network security. For regular folks, the profitability just isn't there compared to buying BTC directly. Some folks can’t just sit and hodl. But what else are the real reasons?

How did you get those numbers anyway? Buying 9 BTC today would set you back some serious cash. Those miner prices are crazy, too. Like M30s++ for example, is about $125,000 for 10 PH, but expenses can pile up quick. So even your estimate of 5 BTC could be off.

Right? I calculated it too and I think it’s only 6 BTC max after setup costs and potential issues. Even in the best-case scenario, it really doesn’t seem worth it. You invest all that BTC just to get barely more back after 3 years.

But the reasons for mining still stand, even if you say they’re just big miner concerns. People who mine must be making it work for them or they’d stop. No one’s throwing money away on losses if they can avoid it.

I totally get that. But starting right before a halving seems like a bad move. A solid plan is key for mining. If someone started a couple years back, they're reaping rewards now. But new miners today? They might just profit in dollars, not BTC.
