Impact of Quantum Computers on Bitcoin

Are quantum computers gonna wreck Bitcoin? I’ve been reading about how cryptographic algorithms could be broken and that really freaks me out. Seems like the world is all set for Bitcoin but then bam, quantum tech could mess things up in the future. What’s up with this QuBit thing, though? Is it the answer?

Ugh, another quantum computing thread... Seriously? This has been talked to death on here. You guys should check out the previous discussions before starting new ones. Spoiler for you: quantum computers ain't a threat for at least a decade. They struggle just to do basic math, let alone something serious.

So here's the deal: yeah, a theoretical quantum computer could be a problem for Bitcoin. But is there anything real out there? Not really. It's all a work in progress and many questions remain unanswered. On the bright side, Bitcoin can shift to quantum-resistant algorithms, and they talk about it daily in the mailing lists. Will it take time? Definitely. Think at least five years.

There’ve been tons of chats here about how quantum attacks could impact Bitcoin down the line. You can verify that using the search bar. But come on, most of these arguments are just theories right now. Quantum computing isn't even fully operational yet, let alone aimed at Bitcoin. I honestly doubt it’ll be a real threat anytime soon. Bitcoin’s protocol will adapt if needed.

Yeah, similar threads have popped up here quite a few times. I noticed you’ve been around since 2024, but come on, it’s key to search before posting a new topic. It makes things run smoother, especially for newbies who are just trying to grasp Bitcoin. And as for your question: at this point, quantum computers aren’t a serious threat to Bitcoin. ‘QuBit’ isn’t a solution yet, but the protocol could eventually switch to quantum-resistant signatures.

There’s a ton we still don’t know about this. QC tech is like in its baby stages. As of now, anything that interferes with Bitcoin's math could impact its price negatively. But it’s interesting to see the strategic moves the community is considered to counter these threats. The Bitcoin crowd needs to step up their defenses, for sure! Still a long road ahead.

I’m not convinced, especially with how few transactions can be processed. But if you look at a centralized sidechain or layer 2, it’s a different story. By the way, when you say QuBit, do you mean the proposal related to quantum computing or something else?

Just ask LLM or Google why quantum stuff won’t be a massive issue for BTC. Then come back and share what you found.

Let me repeat this: is quantum computing a real threat to Bitcoin? Should we even worry about quantum FUD? Quantum computers can't beat Bitcoin now, not even the network. Some claim Bitcoin will be at risk in a couple of years, but I believe devs have been prepping for ages and might surprise us.

Quantum machines are often discussed as future threats, but honestly, it's still pretty far off from being a real concern for Bitcoin right now. We don’t even have practical quantum machines that can crack Bitcoin’s encryption yet. Plus, Bitcoin can change if quantum computing becomes a legit risk. We've seen how they adapt when necessary. About ‘QuBit’, it’s like people mix up the term with actual solutions. Real proposals or research would be way more interesting.

Yeah, I’m talking about that QuBit soft fork for better signature verification. It’s in the works as a long-term defense strategy against QC risks. I think this year or next, we might see a lot of advancements in strengthening defenses. It's not about fear, just being smart and prepared for potential threats.
