How to find exact historical crypto prices at specific times?

Can we actually find the exact price of a coin like Dash or Maker from back in the day? I mean, let’s say January 3, 2022 at 8 AM West Coast time. How do you even do that? CoinMarketCap lets you scroll back, but no exact times... What time zone do they even use?

But Gemini and Bitfinex only show prices for the coins they support, right? I mean, if Binance had a coin listed since 2019, could I find the exact price at 8 AM or 5 PM on January 3, 2019? Like hourly details, I mean.

Exactly, you can only access data from those specific exchanges. CMC gathers data from different sources. I looked at Binance, and it claims to have minute-by-minute data if you sign up for a free account.

So I tried to download a CSV for Waves, and it shows high, low, close, but is that really what I need? Do I have to create an account just to see hourly prices?

CoinMarketCap isn’t an exchange. So, where do they actually get their prices? For accurate data, it’s best to check the exchange with the highest volume for that coin. They often have APIs for automation too.

Seems like CMC has an API, but it's not free. You’ll need a subscription for historical data. You can also find guides on how to get this data into Google Sheets.

Just signed up at CryptoDataDownload. Went to Binance and tried to check a coin’s price, but I only see the high/low/close stuff. Where’s the detailed chart?

I think CoinMarketCap uses UTC for its time zone. Just convert it to your local time using a converter.

You can look at the closing prices in the CSV. No chart included, but you could make one if you have some skills. The Unix timestamp needs conversion to your local time to make browsing easier.

Looking into the historical data can be really enlightening. Market data is messy right now. OP will get the answers eventually, though.

You can create a free account on Koinly for tracking, but if you just want current prices without historical data, Blockchair lets you do it anonymously.
