Saw the BurningManGarage thread and got curious. What do you guys think about this mining setup? Rate it from 1 to 10 keeping in mind that looks can be deceiving. Just to clarify, I didn’t put this together, just grabbed a random pic online. Gonna keep the source nameless to avoid bias.
I’ll give it a solid 1. Honestly, it deserves way worse. They didn’t even take off the plastic wrap on some of the miners! And wooden racks? That’s just a recipe for disaster. Plus, the cable management is a nightmare. Couldn’t tell if there’s carpet down there which adds to the danger.
That top setup? Total disaster. Wires everywhere and way too much wood. The bottom one’s a bit better, but still a lot of wood. I'd rate the top a 2, maybe even lower and the bottom a 3 at best.
I’d say a 3. At least they made the step to own miners. But yeah, the setup is pretty chaotic. I used to keep mine like that, not a great idea. You should definitely build a box with fans to keep things cool.
What is this mess? Too much wood, too much dust. Airflow looks non-existent. And the wires… just wow. Seriously, how could anyone not organize this better? I get it, the first one looks way more neglected than the second, but they both suck.
Yeah totally, those metal shelves are fire-resistant. And cable ties are super cheap too. Cooling and filtering are hard to assess from that pic. I’d be nice and give a 2 or 3 since I can’t see everything else.
1 for me, and honestly, even less if I could. This is one of the worst setups I’ve ever seen. The person clearly cares more about profits than safety or design. No proper cooling or ventilation, just a disaster waiting to happen.
Again, I didn’t build this! Just to be clear. But seriously, that wood makes me anxious. I’ve lived on a farm and seen fires. I’m all about concrete and metal for setups. Just some zip ties and a cheap metal cabinet could save a lot. What’s the main power line look like? Probably a nightmare.
Yeah, I get that Nigeria's not the richest country. But if someone can drop 10k on ASICs, they can spare a couple hundred to prevent a fire. Just saying.
True, it’s a post-catastrophe precaution. But wood shelves alone aren’t the fire starter. I’ve run setups from small rigs to large farms and most fires are from electrical issues. Bad sizing and loose connections are the real culprits.
For real, it’s all about spacing. Those ASICs are packed too tight. Buy iron shelves or make some yourself, it’s not rocket science. And wall sockets can act up, trust me, I’ve been there.
Not really an issue if they’re mounted right. Most miners have rails to connect. Only a few need spacing, like Whatsminer. Others can sit next to each other with no gap.
Wood is okay for GPU rigs but I go all metal for shelves. ASICS are heavy, bad weight distribution can lead to fires. I’ve seen tons of messy rigs, it’s always wires everywhere.
