I came across this video ages ago where two traders debated Bitcoin and altcoins. One claimed that if Ethereum fails, Bitcoin will too. I thought that was ridiculous at first... but then it hit me. Maybe many Bitcoin investors start with altcoins and eventually circle back to Bitcoin.
How Does Bitcoin Impact Ethereum and Other Altcoins?

I think they’re hinting that if Bitcoin collapses, Ethereum will follow suit because altcoins tend to mirror Bitcoin’s price trends. When BTC goes up, ETH and other cryptos usually rise too. And when BTC drops, they all tank, but yeah, altcoins are way more volatile.

Honestly, that’s not supported by data. Altcoins might get a lot of buzz, but most new entrants already know about Bitcoin. And many who chase trends like ICOs often have heard of Bitcoin first. In the end, Bitcoin pretty much sets the market tone.
I don’t know, man. Either the OP misheard or the person doesn’t get it. If Bitcoin stumbles, it’s a nightmare for all other coins. It’s about the network effect, not just about when they were created. Bitcoin works differently and operates on PoW, while Ethereum has different goals.

True that. Without Ethereum, the crypto narrative would be different for sure. But it’s not like Ethereum robs Bitcoin of its shine. When ERC20 came along, it opened up the market, giving users way more options. I wouldn’t say we’d regret Ethereum’s existence.
That’s nonsense. Take Ethereum out of the picture, and the market would still be here. But if you remove Bitcoin? Total chaos! Bitcoin is like the big brother. Would Ethereum even exist if Bitcoin never came around?
Exactly! Bitcoin's the backbone of the crypto space. It drives sentiment, and if Bitcoin’s not doing well, Ethereum's bull runs are impossible. Bitcoin tends to recover first and then lifts Ethereum along with it.
You really can’t believe everything you see or hear online. But the reality is Bitcoin usually leads the pack. It’s hard to believe Ethereum can take the lead in any situation aside from altcoin seasons.
Thinking Ethereum should have been around first is just wrong. Bitcoin’s always existed on its own, and yes, there’s a correlation. Bitcoin can rise while altcoins drop, but if Bitcoin tumbles, everything feels the hit.

Yeah, that flips the narrative. Bitcoin is already a stronghold. If altcoins crash, money flows back into Bitcoin since people trust it more. Bitcoin basically hangs on by its own strength.

Most crypto market crashes kick off with Bitcoin. Even outside issues from exchanges can cause a ripple effect. If they’re dumping Bitcoin first, you know the big players are feeling it too.
Don’t overthink correlations. There are some, but it’s hit or miss. You can’t always track them unless you’ve got specialized tools. Each asset has different drivers, despite their connections.
Totally agree, but let’s keep it real. Ethereum and the rest thrive off of Bitcoin's hype. If everything dropped to zero, Bitcoin would be fine on its own. Altcoins depend on BTC staying relevant.
This discussion feels off. From my experience, bigger altcoins like Ethereum usually follow Bitcoin’s price swings. In a typical market, when BTC pumps, ETH does too... most of the time.
Exactly! Bitcoin’s the leader, and altcoins are just riding its coattails. If Bitcoin rises, alts usually follow. That’s just how it works.

Let’s talk about how companies react. You think they just dump Bitcoin during crises? Nah, they'll keep at least some for stability. It’s a tough choice, and they won’t just sell everything.
Bitcoin drives trends, plain and simple. Ethereum feels the fallout from Bitcoin’s moves. If Bitcoin stumbles, the entire market shakes. History backs that up, and I doubt we’ll see that dynamic change.

Bitcoin is like the unshakable central bank of crypto. It doesn’t need Ethereum to survive since it has its own ecosystem. It’ll keep mining until it hits the cap, even if Ethereum crashes.
I think all of crypto is influenced by broader market trends nowadays, including Bitcoin and Ethereum. They are still correlated with each other, but the larger markets play a big role as well.
I see Bitcoin and Ethereum moving together most of the time, up or down. But sometimes, certain coins do their own thing. In a bear market, they can surprise you and still soar. But I don’t believe if Ethereum dives, Bitcoin will too.
