Hey everyone, I’m new to the whole mining thing and really interested in crypto. Where do I even start with learning about mining?

Check this thread out here. Big takeaway: take advice from so-called experts on YouTube and Twitter with a grain of salt. Seriously, just dig through various threads here. The titles usually give a good idea of what’s being discussed.

Before jumping in, make sure to check your electricity rates. Most ASIC miners are power hogs. If your rates are high, you might not see any profits. And honestly, most ASICs are plug-and-play; just set up your pool and you’re good to go.

Not the best time for newbies to start mining, but it’s a great time to learn. Mining isn’t super profitable now unless you’ve got access to cheap electricity. Bitcoin mining is where it’s at right now, steer clear of GPU mining.

True, but it’s also a good time to snag mining gear at lower prices before the market goes bullish again. You really don’t wanna get caught buying at peak prices just because you hesitated during a bear market.

First step: set up a CPU miner on your laptop or PC and try mining some CPU-based coins. After that, you can experiment with GPU mining. If you still wanna go for it, think about investing in an ASIC miner and scaling up from there. Just keep in mind, mining isn’t really profitable for most folks.

Yeah, there are still plenty of altcoins you can mine with GPUs, but let’s be real, most are pretty worthless. But hey, this is the Bitcoin section, so let’s stick to BTC talk.

Following the tips you get here will definitely help you start mining, but don’t get your hopes too high. There are still challenges ahead, and being prepared can keep you from getting discouraged.

Exactly what I was thinking. The market is super volatile right now. I’ve seen reports of mining companies shutting down. Perfect time to grab mining hardware on sale. But the electricity costs where I live are a killer. Plus, I’ve got tiered rates, so it makes everything more costly.

Hey, I followed your setup instructions for bfgminer. So I put in: stratum+tcp://btc.f2pool.com:1314 for URL and my F2Pool login as username. Is that right? How does F2Pool know my worker name? It seems to be finding blocks but not getting credit.

One issue might be running bfgminer... Whose instructions are you using? If you’re mining with a GPU, you’re in the wrong area; they’re pretty useless for BTC. What hardware are you using? That info is key.
