Super stoked to share this whitepaper I wrote called "KeyNet: A Key-Bound Decentralized Internet Protocol". It’s all about a vision for a truly decentralized internet.
KeyNet is designed around cryptographically bound IPv6 addresses, independent backbone nodes, and a blockchain governance model. The main goal? Kick traditional ISPs and centralized DNS to the curb and make data transmission totally free.

I gotta say, you still need ISPs and big data carriers for internet access. They control the physical cables and networks. Can any ad-hoc system really replace them efficiently? Seems doubtful.
Totally agree. This new network will still rely on existing internet. The aim is more about creating an alternative that resists censorship and is faster, controlled by users. In places where governments shut down the internet, this could be a real solution. Imagine a global network built by the community!
Quick question, though. What's the advantage of this over something like Ethereum Name Service which already links domain names with addresses?
The DNS in KeyNet is similar to what you're talking about. Not claiming it’s better than other systems, just that having a domain system is user-friendly. The real strength here is building massive networks with community control. The idea is that the community decides what gets censored, and ideally, it could work offline by creating alternative infrastructure.
But in your whitepaper, you said it could run without traditional ISPs. If that's not true, you might wanna rethink that name. I’m all for a decentralized internet, but it often ends up not being decentralized at all. Sounds like you're just slapping a blockchain on something that doesn't need it.
Here’s where my proposal stands out from existing Web3 models. In theory, it could operate without the internet, even worldwide. Sure, initial phases will likely lean on current networks since building new international cables for KeyNet is a tall order. But the goal is to lessen that reliance.
Blockchain helps confirm ownership and maintains order in the network.
