Discussion on the New Antminer S4+

Let's kick off the talk about the S4+. Got a setup guide that covers everything in lovely HD. Who’s tried it?

Hey Bitmain and all, I just don’t see any real boost in performance with the S4+. Feels like it's not appealing for home miners in Europe or the US unless power is super cheap. If I could wish for the next gen, I'd want 0.25W/GH and under 30db noise. C'mon Bitmain, this can't be too hard.

Not sure I totally agree. Home miners are looking at 220/240 options now, which is awesome. This lets them plan for the future. Also, if you're at 0.15 KWH, hosting centers might be a better bet to save on costs.

Bitmain really needs to treat S4+ buyers better than they did with the S4s. This isn’t asking for much, right?

I prefer keeping my hardware close by, but yeah, some countries really kill it on power costs and taxes. It’s wild how that impacts mining. Bitmain is a key player and should help home miners thrive.

That’s actually the bottom side up against the heatsink. It’s sealed off from the air, which is interesting.

Quick review: I got my hands on a couple of S4 Plus units, been running them for about an hour. Each is doing around 2550 GHs in a pool that sometimes drops hash rate. Drawing about 6.2 to 6.3 Amps on 220V, so that's around 1470 Watts each. Efficiency is slightly above what was advertised. Noise level is pretty much like a regular S4, but I do hear some odd vibrations.

I feel like the S4+ is basically a ploy to make the S5 look better. Kinda sneaky if you ask me, just to push more sales on the cheaper model.

Yeah, I could see that happening. If they ever drop S2 upgrade kits with the original specs, S4+ and S5 won’t sell at all.

Not sure about that. If you have a big setup, this miner could actually be a solid choice because of the hash rate it offers.

Ideal customers? It’s anyone who cares about saving power and already has 205V+. I only dropped $150 for my electrician to set up two 240V circuits, and it’s paying off with better efficiency on my other units.

But that $150 investment kinda goes to waste when you realize S4+ costs $200 more than two S5s. So how much are you really saving?

The PSU included with the S4+ won't work in places with power under 205V. So does that mean someone in the USA with 110V is out of luck?

Yep, that's what it means. Unless you've upgraded your home to 240V, this isn’t for you.

Aren't American dryers usually 220V?
