Hey everyone, what setups are you all using for your Hydro miners? I mean with cooling, do you go with radiators or air conditioning? Is everything happening in one room or do you guys vent the warm air outside?

Good point! If you’ve got a big enough water source nearby, there’s a chance to set up a heat transfer system. I think that could cool things down way better than just using radiators. Plus, you'd end up with a heated pool or something like that. Not an expert on hydro mining tho.

Wait, so you’re saying a big tank cools faster than a small one? I get that it warms up slower, but doesn’t it also take longer to cool down?

Right? A pool like 8x4x1.5 meters probably wouldn’t cool more than 1-2 miners! It’d heat up too quickly. Gotta rethink if you don’t have like a river or lake handy.

Totally agree, a lake sounds solid. But I’m really curious, should the warm air from a cooled room be vented outside? That creates negative pressure, yeah? Or is it better to keep it sealed and just let the A/C handle it?

Humidity might be a serious issue if it’s a closed space. Condensation could wreck your miners. I reckon the A/C will be working extra hard in that setup, pushing up the electric bill. Both options have downsides.

Hey there, Hydro cooling systems actually dump most of the power consumption into the cooling water. So, for a miner using 5500W, it raises 1 liter of water by about 1.3°K a second. So, if you’re using it for a spa that’s 1000 liters, it'll heat it up by about 5°K per hour. But just a spa won’t cut it for cooling a hydro miner; you’d really need a pool or be in a super cold place.

For sure, radiators should go outside. If you keep them in, it just adds to the heat problem. The whole point of fluid cooling is to move that heat out! And remember, miners like to run between 50-70C, so in cooler weather, you gotta control those radiator fans to stay within that range.

Not really my field, but here’s a thought: Evaporative cooling is brilliant for large aquariums that have a ton of lights heating them up. Get a big water container outside and set up a fan blowing on it. As the water evaporates, it removes heat, which should help keep the temperature a few degrees cooler than the outside.
