The Bitaxe Gamma 601 is super compact, right? I'm curious about overheating though. If I run it at full load for a long time, will it shut down? Anyone had issues with heat?
I run mine at 625Mhz with stock voltage. It gets hot, around 55-60C depending on the room temp. Lowering the voltage doesn’t help, just makes it less reliable. I keep the fan on full speed to avoid that annoying PWM noise and even swapped the stock fan for a quieter Noctua. Each unit averages 1.2-1.4TH/s. I heard changing thermal paste can also help with heat.
70 degrees is fine, no need to panic. The 601 should disconnect only if it gets too hot or if something’s wrong. I’ve seen people on Facebook complain about constant disconnections though.
Yeah, I think the thermal management will shut it down if it gets too hot. Not sure where the limit is, but I always thought anything above 70C makes the chips unreliable. I expect the same for the BM1370 in the Bitaxe.
Thanks for the insight! It's clear now that all devices need good care to avoid failure, especially overheating. At least now we have heat sinks to help protect them compared to the old days when they weren't used.
70 degrees is pushing it too high. Best to keep it around 55-65. Get good thermal paste and change it out; you could drop the temp by 3-5 degrees. I've seen some factory applications that were just terrible.
Totally depends on the heatsink that comes with the Bitaxe. I’ve got two types among my six units and one performs 5-10°C better with the same thermal paste. It’s a bit taller and wider, which probably helps. But yeah, anything above 70°C can make the chips drop out.
Should be around 60 degrees max. Mine hit over 75 in the summer and just stopped hashing. But now I keep it below 65 and it’s been running fine. By the way, where can I get that cool whitepaper stand?
Totally agree! But I just found out they have a 4.8T version now. I paid way more than for the 601, but it’s been a fantastic experience. No issues yet, but I haven't had any successful mining sessions. Maybe I'm just unlucky.
