I’m part of a dev team that’s looking into a hard fork for Bitcoin and we’re thinking about whether it’s possible to allow mining only in the US. Is there a way to block international miners?
No way that’s happening on the real Bitcoin network. If it’s your own new network after the hard fork, maybe, but even that seems sketchy. Understand how decentralized Bitcoin is, man. Even if you convince some pools, solo miners can still operate.
Seriously though, you sound like a dictator. Like, who even does that? Bitcoin is decentralized, dude. If you don’t want global miners, make your own altcoin and stop trying to mess with the original.
What exactly do you mean by ‘reissuing Bitcoin’? Hard forks don’t work that way. Anyone can mine Bitcoin from anywhere, that’s the whole point. Your question seems kinda pointless.
Haha, wow, the comments are savage! But I feel you, man. The idea was a coin tied to the US, so everything could be traced back to America. It’s about security and fighting scams, even though it has its own risks.
Sounds like a bank move to me. It’s like saying you’re guilty until proven innocent. Forcing everyone to use a specific coin is not cool. If you fork it, it’s really just an altcoin unless everyone agrees.
Yeah, exactly. If you do that, you’re basically creating a new coin with zero ties to Bitcoin. A US pool could be a start but restricting miners by country isn’t realistic.
Censorship at its finest. But technically, it’s doable if you tweak the protocol to only accept certain country IPs. Of course, people can use VPNs, so good luck with that. You’d need a strict KYC setup if you want to control anything.
