True, testnet coins change regularly to prevent hoarding. If too many people mine and hold them, it creates problems. Plus, you usually need only a tiny amount of tBTC for testing.
They do have value, even if meant for testing. People want them, so demand is there. I bet they'll eventually sell for at least 1% of mainnet prices or even 10%. It might even help onboard new users.
Exactly, there are always those who will buy and sell tBTC. If it gets out of hand, another reset will make their coins worthless. They’ll just lose out.
Developers are concerned about tBTC gaining value. It defeats the purpose of the testnet. Faucets should not be abused, and many won’t return coins after testing.
I don’t live in the US, but your approach is interesting. It’s kind of like a store model where you ‘deposit’ a bit before getting tBTC. Then you return it after use.
