Best Fan Setup for the Compac F Miner

So the Compac F comes without any cooling fans, and without them it can seriously overheat. I hooked up a USB fan directly to its heatsink. It works great, the miner stays cool even after hours of operation and the fan isn’t too loud... until it’s super quiet, then it’s kinda annoying. I'm thinking of upgrading the fans.

How many USB sticks are you running? I’ve used up to 128 sticks before. Got around 15 side hacks too, pretty crazy setup. If you put four sticks under a pair of fans, it’s like having four table legs for stability. Just wait for a link to the fan I mentioned.

The fan stand from 419 Mining is solid. I’m using it with a 92mm Noctua fan across 6 Compac F miners. Works like a charm!

That stand looks nice, thinking about getting one myself. You can actually 3D print it since 419 Mining open-sourced the design.

Here’s my setup: aluminum extrusions in rectangles with fans on top, and hubs sitting on them. I’m running 12 sticks at 575MHz and have had 24 days of uptime like this. Some sticks use Noctua fans on a 3D printed mount, but most are cooled by Noctua NF-A12x25 fans above. Tinkered a lot to keep the 3A max. Currently drawing about 200W.

Whoa Powell, that’s impressive! Just to clarify, are you drawing 200 watts total (+ Pi)? I’m using a Zero 2W. That amount for 4.5 TH/s seems like solo work?

I found a silent cooling setup that let me push up to 510MHz. I bought some cool stuff: a big aluminum heatsink and a set of smaller ones with thermal adhesive tape. Have to cut the longer pieces for my needs.

That thermal adhesive you’re using is pretty much useless for good heat transfer. You’ll lose most benefits of those big heatsinks. For gluing, you need a better thermal conductivity glue; that 2W/mK just won’t be enough. Basic thermal paste is better than that.
